Visit China Today!
Shanghai Disneyland is a park currently in development in Pudong district of Shanghai, China. Opening in the spring of 2016, Shanghai Disneyland is trying a few new things not seen in other parks of this kind. Officials expect that the park will draw about 17 million visitors annually.
“We are building something truly special here in Shanghai that not only showcases the best of Disney’s storytelling but also celebrates and incorporates China’s incredibly rich heritage to create a one-of-a-kind destination that will delight and entertain the people of China for generations to come. We are taking everything we’ve learned from our six decades of exceeding expectations – along with our relentless innovation and famous creativity to create a truly magical place that is both authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese,” said Bob Iger, Disney Chairman and CEO at a presentation held at Shanghai Expo Centre.
Here are a few of the more interesting changes in the works at the new park.
Disneytown is a comprehensive shopping, dining, and entertainment district. It is a very new concept which in some ways is equal to the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts in the USA, Ikspiari at Tokyo Disney Resort, and Disney Village at Disneyland Paris. This Disneytown is outside of the park, which means one can go and enjoy a weekend there without a ticket.
There is a Walt Disney Theater in the Disneytown. “The Lion King,” a Broadway musical will release as the first Chinese version of “The Lion King” musical. In the center of Shanghai Disneytown there is a lake area which is as large as 56 football fields. It is recommended to prepare a few more days if you want to play from beginning to end.
The World’s Largest Disney Store
In the Internet voting for design solutions to the Disney subway station in Shanghai, the 2nd design solution named “Dream trip that belongs to you” won the highest number of votes. At the moment when the door opens, visitors are expected to exclaim in great surprise to find themselves on an unusual trip, like Alice in Wonderland.
Pirates of the Caribbean Adventure
The first theme park of Shanghai Disney is named “Treasure Bay.” It will unfold before your eyes the story and characters of film series Pirates of the Caribbean.
Treasure Bay’s main attractions include a new high-tech ship ride: “Pirates of the Caribbean – the Battle for the Sunken Treasure”. The major attractions will lead visitors to the depths of the ocean, go through the pirate ship and immerse them in a fierce naval battle, while ploughing through the sea waves to experience a pirate adventure.
Beautiful Artificial Lake
Before entering the Shanghai Disneyland gates, visitors will be attracted to a pool of blue water. This is the artificial lake specially built in Shanghai Disneyland covering an area of nearly 10 acres (over 400,000 square meters). This is perhaps the largest Water-scape platform in Disney history.
The six themed lands will include Adventure Isle, Gardens of Imagination, Mickey Avenue, Tomorrowland, Treasure Cove and Fantasyland, with its Enchanted Storybook Castle. Within each region, there are recreation facilities, dining facilities and shops to meet your needs.
