After the People’s Republic of China was founded, Yu opera began to draw on the merits of other genres, blending the novel element of modern opera and created its own style.
On May 20 2006, Yu opera was listed in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage in China. Besides Henan, Yu opera is also found in other part of China, like Hubei, Anhui, Jiangsu, Shandong, etc., which is the largest local opera in China.
