Nestled at the southern foot of Huangshan Mountain, Xidi Village is 40 kilometers far from the Huangshan Scenic Area, which is reputed as the “the most beautiful village in the world” and “treasure house of Chinese ancient dwellings”. It was listed as UNESCO world cultural heritage and a 4A national scenic area in the year of 1999.
Being perched in the southeast of Yixian County, Xidi village stretches 700 meters long from west to east, 700 meters wide from north to south, occupying 16 hectares in coverage. It hosts about 300 households and one thousand villagers. It was built in Huangyou period of Northern Song dynasty, developed in the middle of Jingdai period of Ming dynasty, and prospered in early Qing dynasty. It enjoys the history of more than 960 years. Till now, there are 124 well-preserved dwellings, 4 ancestral halls and one memorial arch in Xidi village, all of which are built in Ming and Qing dynasties.
