Rize Valley, stretching for 18 kilometers, is the most attractive part of Jiuzhaigou Valley. Located between Nuorilang and virgin forest, it contains the largest variety of sites and is typically visited first. Hiking downhill, one can visit such spots as the Primeval Forest, Swan Lake, Grass Lake, Panda Lake, Five Flower Lake, Pearl Shoal, and Mirror Lake.
Mirror Lake is a quiet lake casting beautiful reflections of the surroundings. The lake is enclosed by forest, which is notable for the movie Hero directed by Zhang Yimou. The reflection of Mirror is regarded as the most enchanting scenery of Jiuzhaigou Valley.
Swan Lake, named for its visiting swans and ducks, is a 2250 meters long and 125-meter wide picturesque lake. Swan Lake is a special lake among Jiuzhaigou lakes being connected with the lower reach of Grass Lake. The most area of the lake silt up and turn into shoals.
Enclosed by towering forest and luxuriant flowers, the lake becomes a natural habitat of swans which are a kind of migratory birds and move to other places of north China in summer. Although Swan Lake is habitats of swans, they do not always see if you are visit in the summer an autumn.
Panda Lake is characterized by curious color patterns of green and blue. It is said that pandas in Jiuhzhaigou come to drink water and find food, hence the name. There is a white rock with black stripes, which looks like a lovely panda.
Five Flower Lake is considered as the essence of Jiuzhaigou. Five Flower Lake is a shallow multi-colored lake whose bottom is criss-crossed by by fallen tree trunks. Hiking along the long plank bridge in the forest, the Five Flower Lake can be seen. The section of west bridge is the best site to watch the picturesque lake. Due to the calcium carbonate and colorful algae at the bottom of lake, Five Flower Lake presents a versicolor sight, azure blue, green and light yellow, etc.
The Primeval Forest locates the end of the itinerary of Rize Valley. The Primeval Forest, fronted by splendid view of the surrounding mountains and cliffs, is a preserved ancient forest. It will be enjoyable for visitors to breath fresh air, step on ground covered with fallen leaves and moss and listen to the song of wind and birds.
