Li River

Originating in Maoer Mountain at Xin’an County, Li River winds its way of 83 kilometers from Guilin to Yangshuo. Li River scenic area is the largest and most beautiful karst scenery in the world which has greatly intoxicated visitors since ancient times. The 83-kilometer-long sections from Yangshuo to Guilin enjoy the reputation of best scenery and essence of Li River, decorated with undulant and verdant hills, wonderful caves, leisurely boats and fishermen, which form a splendid hundred-kilometer picture gallery.

The charm of Li River lies in crystal-clear water, verdant mountains, unique caves and exquisite rocks. The Li River scenic area is divided into three sections according to the different views. The first scenic section is from the downtown of Guilin to Huangniu Gorge(the scenery includes Elephant Trunk Hill, Rooster Fighting Hill, Pagoda Hill, Forest of Odd Shaped Peaks, Daxu Ancient Town and Huangnue Gorge), the second from Huangniu Valley to Shuiluo Village (the scenery includes Wangfu Rock, Crown Cave, Yangdi Village, Mural Hill, Yellow Cloth Shoal and Xingping Ancient Town) and the third from Shuiluo Village to Yangshuo (scenery includes Snail Hill, Bilian Peak and Shutong Hill). The Li River takes on different views with the change of weather. On the rainy days, the river and its near mountains are covered with mist. On sunny days, the verdant mountains and the white clouds reflect in the river.

For visitors to Guilin, cruising on Li River is undoubtedly the highlight, which takes about four hours from Guilin to Yangshuo. The boat downstream usually stops at Yangdi Village while the karst landscape can be seen all the way. This is also the final part of Li River cruise, which surprise you with the local rural view like buffaloes on the field, ducks paddling in the water and peasants working on the reap paddies, fishermen catching fish in the river, etc.
