Huangyao Ancient Town is located in Zhaoping Couty, Guangxi and about 200 kilometers away from Guilin. A 1,042-year-old town with best-preserved remnants of the past covers an area of 1 square kilometer. The landform of the ancient town is the typical karst. There are eight ancient walkways paved with giant marble and the quaint resident houses on the both sides are characterized by Ming and Qing styles. The town well keeps over 20 temples, about 10 pavilions, assembly halls, ancient stage.
Huangyao Ancient Town was once famous for its trade and commerce in ancient time so that the houses along the street were the former stores. During its heyday in Qing Dynasty (1636-1912), there were about 300,000 traders and merchants in the town. Now they are cut down to about 3,000 with two main families – Huang and Yao which gave the name of the town. As a cultural ancient town, Huangyao is undoubtedly the place to enjoy the exquisite ancient buildings and experience the leisurely local lifestyle. It is easy for tourists to find the beauty and historical trace by wondering around the town.
The mountain close to the town is the best place to get a panoramic view. The local children are glad to be volunteers to lead the tourists to climb the mountain.
The best time to visit Huangyao is from the September to November when the weather is mild and it is also the time to vegetables and fruits.
