Comprising an area of 168 square kilometers, Baiyunshan National Forest Park lies in the hinterland of the Funiu Mountain Ridge in south Song County, Luoyang City. The park is home to over 200 kinds of animals and nearly 2,000 species of plants so that it enjoys the reputation of “Natural Museum.”
There are 37 mountain peaks rising 1,500 meters above the sea, and Yuhuang Peak, with height of 2,216 meters, is the best place around to watch the sun rise. Here visitors not only get an a picturesque view of natural scenes but also experience Chinese culture by way of the temples within the park.
Baiyun Peak, at2,150 meters above the sea level, is surrounded by the cloud throughout the year. Entering the scenic area, tourists can visit such spots as One-Line-Sky, Wangfu Rock (Amah Rock), and Tianqiao Bridge. According to The Legend of the White Snake, Baiyun peak is the place where a white snake once transformed into a beautiful woman.
Yuhuangding Peak, the highest peak at 2,212 meters, is a place where visitors can get a panoramic view of the copious amounts of vegetation and take in the sunrise. In addition, Yuhuang Pavillion (a Taoist temple) atop the peak is considered a sacred shrine Chinese Taoism.
Primitive Forest in the park, sheltering various kinds of flora and fauna, is the transitional area from the warm temperate zone to a more tropical climate. It is an ideal place to enjoy the natural beauty of the park. In addition, there is mountain ridge in the valley which is called the “back of the dragon”. In April and May, the ancient trees, strangely-shaped pines and azaleas are especially beautiful as they come into bloom.
Baiyun Lake is another attractive spot where you can relax and take in the sights . Built in 1997, the lake is actually artificial, containing of 120,000 cubic meters of water. The bewitching scenery consists of an azure-blue sky, green mountains, and clear lake which visitors can use for boating.
