Taking an area of 168 square kilometers, Baiyunshan National Forest Park lies in the hinterland of Funiu Mountain Ridge, south Song County, Luoyang City. The park shelters 204 kinds of animals and 1991 species of plants so that it enjoys the reputation of “Natural Museum”.
There are 37 peaks rising 1,500 meters above the sea level. Yuhuang Peak with height of 2,216 meters is the best place to watch sunrise and sea of clouds. Here visitors not only get an eyeful of natural and picturesque view but also experience the Chinese culture in the temples in the park.
Baiyun Peak, rising 2,150 meters above the sea level, as one of main peaks, is surrounded by the cloud throughout the year. Entering the scenic area, tourists can visit such spots as One-Line-Sky, Wangfu Rock (Amah Rock), and Tianqiao Bridge. According to The Legend of the White Snake (a folktale), Baiyun peak is the place where a white snake transform into a beautiful woman.
Yuhuangding Peak, as the highest peak with an altitude of 2,212 meter, is a place where visitors can get a panoramic view of the vertical distribution of the vegetation and watch the sunrise and sea cloud. In addition, Yuhuang Pavillion (a Taoist temple) atop the peak is one of sacred shrines of Taoism in China.
Primitive Forest in the park, sheltering various kinds of animals, plants and trees, is the transitional area from warm-temperate zone and subtropical zone. It is an ideal place to enjoy the primitive natural beauty in the park. In addition, there is mountain ridge in the valley which is called the “back of dragon”. In April and May, the ridge shows its most beauty which is composed of Ancient trees, strangely-shaped pines and azalea.
Baiyun Lake is another attractive spot where you can fully relax and exhilarate yourself . Built in 1997, the lake is an artificial lake with impoundage of 120,000 cubic meters. The bewitching scenery consists of blue sky, green mountains and clear lake where you can go boating.
