Xinjiang Welcomes Adventuring Thrill-Seekers

Key Expressway to Be Built in Xinjiang

Shenzhen Daily Aug. 23, 2005 - Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China plans to build an expressway which serves as an important passage leading to central and western Asia as well as eastern Africa and Europe. The expressway, totaling 296.5 km. in length, links Korlar with Kuqa in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The project is to cost an investment of 3.6 billion yuan (about US$444 million). Apart from government allocation and self-raised funds, the region will apply for an estimate 200 million US dollars in loan from the Bank of Asia. Xinjiang invested 33.4 billion yuan (US$4.02 billion)in road construction from 2001 to 2005, more than double the amount it had injected in the last five decades of the 20th century.

 

Int'l Visitors Boost Tourism in Xinjiang

Xinhua News, Aug. 10, 2005 - Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region received 118,100 international visitors during the first half of this year, 37 percent more than the same period of 2004, according to the local statistical bureau. The soaring number of foreign tourists brought 30.8 million US dollars to Xinjiang, a year-on-year growth of 40.6 percent. The "one-day travel" has become the most popular tourism package to foreign travelers, especially from Kazakhstan and kyrgyzstan, said the bureau. Meanwhile, a growing number of tourists from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan are also being attracted by the scenic landscapes in Xinjiang.
 

China, Kazakstan to launch 12 transportation routes
Xinhuanet, August 3, 2005 - The communications delegations of China and Kazakhstan have signed agreement to launch 12 direct passenger and cargo transportation routes between the two countries as of September 1 this year. According to the Communications Department of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China, the 12 transportation routes will be operational between the major cities in Xinjiang and Kazakhstan.The 12 routes will benefit trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, said Luo Jianxin, deputy director of the regional communications department. Up to date, Xinjiang has 15 highway transportation ports, 63 international passenger and cargo transportation routes, which will rise to 75 by September.
