China Visa
According to the Law of the People's Republic of China Concerning the Administration of Foreigners Entering and Leaving the Country, foreign tourists must apply for visas at China's foreign affairs offices, consulates or other organizations authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs A group of five tourists or more can apply for a group tourist visa. This is usually handled by a travel agency organizing groups. People coming to China from countries which have visa agreements with China (such as agreements which exempt tourist groups from visas) are treated in accordance with these agreements. If you want to go to Tibet for a visit you can apply for a visa only with the consent of the Tourism Administration of the Tibet Autonomous Region or any one of its foreign representative offices. A passport is required for visa application, the passport shall be valid for at least 6 months beyond the duration of the tour. 
Visa is required for Canadians, Americans and people of most other nationalities who travel to China. You can apply it directly at the Chinese Embassies and Consulate Generals around the world:
For Canadian and US passport holders, visa is not required for Hong Kong if your stay is less than 90 days as a tourist. For other passport holders, please consult with your nearest PRC embassy or consulate.
China Tourist Visa (also known as L visa) issued to travelers who enter China temporarily for tourism, sightseeing, visits with friends or relatives, medical treatment or other private purposes. China tourist visa is valid for 6 months with single-entry, or 6 months with double-entry, or 6 months/12 months with multiple-entry.
China Business Visa (also known as F visa) issued to foreigners who are invited to China for business visit, consult with business associates, attend professional or business convention, make commercial contacts, or culture exchanges, short-term studies for a period of no more than six months. China business visa is valid for 6 months with single-entry, 6 months with double-entry, or 6 months/12 months with multiple-entry.
China Student Visa (also known as X visa) issued to foreigners who enter China for study, advanced studies for a period of more than six months. For a period of no more than six months, business visa (type F) will be granted.
 China Work Visa (also known as Z visa) issued to foreigners who enter China for a post or employment, and their accompanying family members. The holder of a work visa shall go through residential formalities in the local public security department within thirty days of entry into China.
China Crew Visa (also known as C Visa) issued to crew members to perform duties on board an international train, airlines or other vessel, and their accompanying family members.
China Transit Visa (also known as G Visa) issued to foreigners transit through China.

CHINA TOURIST VISA SERVICE  INSTRUCTION

Business Letter or Invitation Letter:
    A Business Letter from your company or an invitation letter from the Chinese company, Letter must address to "Consulate of China" explaining the purpose of the trip, guaranteeing financial support for you while in China.

    Send a copy of Visa Notification and Work Permit or Foreign Expert's License. Your employer in China should obtain the Visa Notification and Work Permit/Foreign Expert's License for you. The Chinese visa notification issued by the authorized Chinese unit, and a Work Permit for Foreigners issued by the Chinese Labor Ministry. The Foreign Expert's License issued by the Chinese Foreign Expert Bureau.
