Day 3. Beijing The capital city of China, Beijing has a population of 17.4 million. Your day will start at Tiananmen Square which is known at the Gate of Heavenly Peace. This square contains the Monument to the People’s Heroes, the Great Hall of the People, the Museum of History and Revolution, and the Chairman Mao Zedong Memorial Hall (with Mao's embalmed body). After adventuring through the square the group will continue on to the Forbidden City (Gu Gong or The Imperial Palaces). To end the day you can enjoy a walk along Lake Kunming and eat at Peking Duck Banquet. The Peking Duck is known for their crispy duck skins. Chinese people enjoy the duck skins rolled up in a tortilla with cucumber, onion and special sauce. Food Amenities: American breakfast, lunch and special dinner. Great Wall of China(Chang Cheng)
Today we will visit, Chang Cheng, also known as the Great Wall of China. We will hike on Badaling Pass and eat lunch at a local restaurant. We will visit Hutong and Alley of Beijing old town. To end the day you can enjoy a walk down the World Trade Street and watch the “Legand of Kungfu’s Show.” Food Amenities: American breakfast, lunch and dinner. Day 5. Beijing Today is your day to explore Beijing how you want. An optional tour to Tianjin is available for those who want to visit the 6th largest city in China. Day 6. Beijing to Urumqi Fly to Urumqui in the morning. When you arrive we will go to the biggest local market, known as “BAZA.”For dinner, enjoy a roasted lamb. Food Amenities: American breakfast, lunch and dinner. |
Day 7. Urumqi After breakfast, we’ll visit the Lake of Heaven and take a boat ride on this beautiful highland lake. In the winter time the lake freezes and is an ideal alpine skating rink. We’ll also visit the Hill of Heaven Grassland. To finish the day we’ll visit Xinjiang Regional Museum. Food Amenities: American breakfast, lunch and dinner |
Gaochang Ruins
Today we will take a bus to Turpan, a Uighur town that is surrounded by dry mountains and desert. We’ll explore the Gaochange Ruins which has thousands of Karez Underground Irrigation Channels. Day 9.Turpan to Dunhuang You’ll enjoy a full day in Turpan, which is known for its big, delicious sweet grapes. You will visit Grape Valley and Jiaohu Ruins before taking the sleepover night train to Dunhuang. Food Amenities: American breakfast, lunch and dinner |
Day 10. Dunhuang The main attractions you will visit in Dunhuang are the Singing Sand Mountains and Crescent Moon Lake. Dunhuang is an important city because during the Han and Tang dynasties, this city was a stopping point for incoming and outgoing trading caravans. Mogao Caves
After breakfast the first place you will visit is the Mogao Caves, the world’s most important city of Buddhist culture. The grottoes are known as the Caves of the Thousand Buddha and preserve about a thousand years of Buddhist architecture, clay sculptures, mural paintings and manuscripts. The caves are in all different sizes, from single- room sized for monks to huge worship halls that host sculptures and mural cycles. For dinner enjoy local food and the singing and dancing show. Jiayuanguan
It will take four hours to drive back to Jiayuhuan. We will visit Jiayuhuan Fort and the overhanging Great Wall which as was built in 1539 during the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644) to strengthen the defensive capability of the Jiayuguan area. You’ll enjoy dinner and take an overnight train to Gansu Province- Lanzhou. Food Amenities: American breakfast, lunch and dinner |
Day 13.Lanzhou to Xi’an You will arrive in Lanzhou in the morning and visit Liujiazia Dam where you’ll take a boat to Yongjing County to visit the Bingling Grottoes. Bingliing is a Tibetan term meaning “ten thousand Buddha.” In the grottoes about 700 stone sculptures have been preserved. You’ll enjoy a tour to the Zhongshan Iron Bridge, the first bridge on the Yellow River. For dinner you’ll enjoy local cuisine and then fly to Xi’an. Terra Cotta Warriors (Bing Ma Yong)
Xi’an is an important city in Chinese culture. Today you will visit the Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses Museum (Bing Ma Yong) which is known as the 8th miracle in the world. When Qin Shi Huang died, the entire Terra Cotta Army was buried with him in the mausoleum. Although this event was well documented by Chinese historians, it wasn’t discovered by a group of farmers until 1974. You’ll also stop at the Bell Tower and enjoy an Imperial Dumpling Banquet (Jiao Zi) for dinner. To end the night enjoy the world famous Tang Dynasty Stage Show. Ancient City Wall (Cheng Qiang)
To finish off your trip to Xi’an you will visit the Ancient City Wall (Cheng Qiang). You will have the chance to ride a bike around the city or practice Tai Chi. You’ll then fly to Shanghai. In Shanghai you will enjoy a nice break from Chinese food and enjoy a hamburger for lunch. After lunch, you visit, Bund, a five- block riverfront of Shanghai’s banks and trading houses. Day 16. Shanghai Today you will have the chance to shop for novelty items at bargain prices. The tour of Shanhai will start at Shanghai Old Street and continue to the happening shopping district of Nanjing Road and the People's Square. After shopping, you’ll explore the Shanghai Museum. The Shanghai museum features a collection of 120,000 precious works of art including, ancient Chinese bronze, ceramics, painting and calligraphy. Day 17. Fly home Transport to the airport and fly home. |
