Nestled at the southern foot of Huangshan Mountain, Xidi Village is 25 miles (40 kilometers) from the Huangshan Scenic Area, which is reputed as the “the most beautiful village in the world” and “treasure house of Chinese ancient dwellings.” It was listed as UNESCO world cultural heritage and a 4A national scenic area in 1999.
Being perched in the southeast of Yixian County, Xidi village stretches 3,000 feet (700 meters) on all 4 sides, occupying 16 hectares in coverage. It is home to about 300 households and one thousand villagers. It was built during the Huangyou period of the Northern Song dynasty, developed in the middle of Jingdai period of the Ming dynasty, and prospered in the early Qing dynasty. Till now, there are 124 well-preserved dwellings, 4 ancestral halls and one memorial arch in Xidi village, all of which are built during Ming and Qing dynasties.
Xidi Village enjoys a superior location and convenient transportation, which is 5 miles (8 kilometers) from Yixian County, more than 32 miles (52 kilometers) from Huangshan Railway Station, 31 miles (50 kilometers) from Huangshan Airport, and 27 miles (43 kilometers) from the southern gate of Huangshan Scenic Area.
