Rize Valley

The Beauty of China can be Yours!

Rize Valley, stretching for 11 miles (18 kilometers), is the most attractive part of Jiuzhaigou Valley. Located between Nuorilang and virgin forest, it contains the largest variety of sites, and is typically visited first by the countless visitors who flock here each year. Hiking downhill, one can visit such spots as the Primeval Forest, Swan Lake, Grass Lake, Panda Lake, Five Flower Lake, Pearl Shoal, and Mirror Lake.

Mirror Lake is a quiet lake casting beautiful reflections of the surroundings. The lake is enclosed by forest, which is notable for the movie Hero directed by Zhang Yimou. The reflection of Mirror Lake is regarded as the most enchanting scenery in Jiuzhaigou Valley.

Swan Lake, named for its resident swans and ducks, is a picturesque lake almost a mile and a half (2,250 meters) long and 410 feet (125 meters) wide. Swan Lake is a special lake among Jiuzhaigou lakes, being connected with the lower reaches of Grass Lake.

Enclosed by towering forest and gorgeous flowers, the lake is a natural habitat of swans which, as migratory birds, move to other places in the north of China in summer.

Panda Lake is characterized by curious color patterns of green and blue. It is said that the pandas in Jiuhzhaigou come here to drink water and find food, hence the name.

Five Flower Lake is considered the essence of Jiuzhaigou. Five Flower Lake is a shallow multi-colored lake whose bottom is crisscrossed by by fallen tree trunks. Hiking along the long plank bridge in the forest, Five Flower Lake can be seen. The section of west bridge is the best site to take in the picturesque lake. Due to the calcium carbonate and colorful algae at the bottom of the lake, Five Flower Lake presents a varicolored sight: azure-blue, green and light yellow, etc.

The Primeval Forest located at the end of the itinerary of Rize Valley. The Primeval Forest, fronted by a splendid view of the surrounding mountains and cliffs, is a well-preserved ancient forest. It will be enjoyable for visitors to breath the fresh air, walk the leaf-covered grounds,  and listen to the song of wind and birds.
