Located in the center of Changchun city, Cultural Square is the largest city square in Changchun. Built in 1996, the square stretches to Dongmin Main Street in the east, borders Jiefang Road in the south and Minzhu Street in the west, and is adjacent to Jilin University in the north. Covering an area of over 50 acres (20.5 hectares), the square has a large sunbird sculpture in its center and an open air music forum in the north. The main axis, 1,400 feet (429 meters) long, is lined with main entrance, north and south main roads from south to north. The main road is laid with granite which makes the square natural, solemn, and steady. On the both sides of the main entrance, the green area is an expansive 10 acres (40,000 square meters). Besides, the square doves are raised to make the square more interesting.
Some famous restaurants around the square offer delicious food to visitors. In spring and summer, many people relax on the grand and fly kites. You can buy a kite on the square for roughly 10 rmb.
