The Bell Tower is located in the center of Xian and it is the place where the four main streets, West Street, East Street, North Street and South Street, converge. The Bell Tower is 36 meters in height, 8.6 meters high in the substratum, and 35.5 meters in width, and covers 1,377 square meters. The four main streets encircle the Bell Tower and stretch to the four gates enclosing the city . The Bell Tower is the largest and best-preserved bell tower among the many such towers left over from ancient times.
In the northwest corner of the Bell Tower hangs a 5-ton iron bell build during the Ming dynasty, on which the exquisite Eight Diagrams patterns are cast, but it is much smaller than the Jingyun bronze bell previously hung on the Bell Tower. Standing on the Bell Tower, visitors can catch a panoramic glimpse of Xian city. Nighttime views of the Bell Tower is particularly beautiful and watching it is really a must-have for visitors.
The Bell Tower also hosts the artwork of Qi Baishi, a prestigious painter in modern China. Moreover, chime performance are also held on the Bell Tower each day, which offers a great chance to appreciate the culture of this ancient city. Appreciating the music played by chimes and watching the fabulous dancing never fails to entertain visitors. The performance is scheduled for every Saturday at 9:00 am, 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 15:00 pm, 16:00 pm and 17:00 pm, lasting about 10-15 minutes. Moreover, an antique exhibition is also available on the Bell Tower.
