Climate of Jiangxi Province
Jangxi has a subtropical monsoon-type climate with wet summer and dry autumn, cloudy winter and cold spring. The average annual temperature is between 16
ºC and 20 ºC (60.8 ºF and 68 ºF), the coldest month, January, is 3ºC-9ºC (37.4 ºF and 48.2 ºF), while the hottest, July, is 27ºC-31ºC (80.6 ºF and 87.8 ºF) with a highest temperature in the Poyanghu Basin. While the average annual rainfall is between 1,200 mm and 1,900 mm, it has intermittent drizzles in spring and rainstorms in summer but much less rainfall in autumn.

History of Jiangxi Province
Jiangxi was under the states of Chu in the Spring and Autumn Period. In 733 A.D. Jiangnan Dao (an ancient administrative division) was divided into two parts, the eastern Dao and western Dao. The western Dao was called Jiangxi (west of the Yangtze River) for short, hence its name. It was named Jiangxi province in Qing Dynasty (1368-1644), which has remain ever since. The Jinggang Mountains were the first rural revolutionary base area set up by the late Chairman Mao Zedong in 1927; Nanchang, a heroic city where the " August 1st" Uprising took place in 1927, the day is regarded as the founding of People's Liberation Army (PLA); Ruijin, the site for the central work-peasant democratic government during the Second Revolutionary War; and Anyuan, one of the birthplace of the Chinese worker's movement led by Mao Zedong and Liu Shaoqi.

Products of Jiangxi Province
The major cash crops in Jiangxi are tea and hemps—jute and ramie. The white grass linen made from ramie in Yichun and Wanzai are of best quality. Tea grows mainly in the hilly areas in the north. Such tea like "Ninghong" from Wuning, "Wulu" from Wuyuan and "Yunwu" from Mt. Lushan are all well know in China.
Equally famous are Guangchang white lotus seeds and Nanfeng
tangerines. Besides, Fuzhou watermelon, Shangrao pear, Ganxian
persimmon and Nankang shaddock also enjoy a good fame. Jingdezhen is world-renewed for its porcelain. Today, a new generation of porcelain—artistic or for industrial use -- is being developed. In addition, there are such handicrafts as bamboo and wood crafts, embroidery and special craft, etc.

Jiangxi Hot Spots and Tourist Attractions

Lushan Mountain Resort
Lushan is 95 miles north of Nanchang, at the center of an area covering many scenic spots in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangzi River.

Lushan has been praised for centuries for its natural beauty. Far back in the Han Dynasty (306 B.C.-330 A.D.), China's great historian, Sima Qian, wrote in his classic, The Historical Records: I mounted Lushan in the south and examined how Yu the Great had dredged the nine streams.” It has inspired many poets and scholars of past dynasties to compose numerous literary works.

The scenery in the Lushan tourist area is breathtaking, and historical relics are abundant. Up in the mountains are towering peaks, steep gorges, overhanging cliffs and cascading waterfalls. Due to the surrounding mountains, thick forests, rivers and lakes, Lushan has long spring and cool summers, which make it a celebrated summer resort. At the foot of Lushan Mountain lies the biggest freshwater lake in China, the Poyang Lake, the Shizhongshan Hill and the ancient city of Jiujiang. All of them possess unique charms.

Jingdezhen - China's "Capital of Porcelain"
Jingdezhen, long hailed as the capital of porcelain, is 75 miles north of Nanchang.

The town has a long history, and is listed as one of the Four Great Towns of ancient China. It covers an area of 3,031 square miles, and has a population of 611,030.

Porcelain was first made there during the Han dynasty (306 B.C.-330 A.D.). Since the Tang Dynasty, the white glazed china produced there had earned the name “artificial jadeware.” In the Northern Song Dynasty, officials were assigned by the emperor to the town to supervise the manufacturing of porcelain for the royal families, and Jingde china began to make its fame abroad. In the following centuries, Jingde china was sold to many countries across the world.

Since the founding of the People's Republic in 1949, a major pottery and china industry has developed.

Jingdezhen, with a mild and cool climate, is also an interesting tourist resort. The town nestles in mountains and is encircled by the Yangzi River. Visitors can see lovely lotus blossoming in the Lianhuatang Pond and enjoy the sweet scent of osmanthus from the Wufengge Pavilion. There is a famous ancient kiln at Hutian, and an ancient Ming street at the Sanlumiao. The newly constructed exhibition ground for the display of ancient porcelain industry, called the Guzhen kiln, is of great interest. The Pottery and China Pavilion, the Pottery and China College, the Pottery and China Institute and more than a dozen major china manufacturing works are also worth visiting.

Lushan Botanic Garden
Set up in 1934, this subtropical mountain botanic garden contains more than 3,400 species of plants, from both China and other countries, and has a collection of over 100,000 plant specimen. Besides, some 10,000 met sequoias, known as the fossil plant, are growing in it. The botanic garden has contacts with over 200 institutions in 53 countries. The Donglin Monastery, White Deer Scholars' House, Jiujiang Mist-and-Water Pavilion, Hukou Stone Bell Mountian, Pengze Dragon Palace Cave, etc. are also tourist attraction in the area.

Mt. Jinggang
Lying on the middle section of Luoxiao Mountain Rang, Mt. Jinggang was the first rural revolutionary base area created by Comrade Mao Zedong and the cradle of the Chinese revolution. Today, its wonderful landscape is attracting many visitors. The following places on Mt. Jinggang are good for sightseeing: Ciping, Wudashaokou, Dajing, Xiaojing, Huang'ao and the waterfall at Five-Dragon Pool.
